March 2010 class- filigree soldered pendant

Join me on Saturday, March 20th as we learn how to take vintage components such as filigree, tintype photos, rhinestones and iconic medallions to create a unique, one-of-a-kind necklace. We will be some light component soldering. We will also discover ways to attach different elements and embellishments and then i will demonstrate how to pour resin as the final step to your pieces. February is fast approaching so i thought i'd post my class offerings now to give you time to maybe attend!

the first class, "Destash that stash" will be held on Friday, February 12, 2010 from 10:00-2:00. one day when i was sitting around, i decided to spend 20 minutes going through my studio stuff, stuff found in junk drawers, stuff found in jewelry boxes, stuff belonging to my grandma, stuff belonging to my mother and broken stuff! i wondered, "what could i do with all this stuff? it is stuff that has meaning to me, yet it is just hiding away. you would not believe the fun stuff i rounded up in the strangest places (bathroom drawer!) we will be learning jewelry basics like wire wrapping, attaching, component soldering and basic jewelry design on creating a 2 tier charmed necklace and figuring out what to do with all this cool stuff. here are a couple of different designs i created to show what we will be doing. email me at keeshagirl4@aol.com for more information or to reserve your seat.

beat the winter blues with some creativity in January!

On Saturday, January 16th, i will be teaching a basics jewelry class here at my house. we will learn wire wrapping and bringing found objects together to create a necklace. what is a found object? found objects are objects you have lying about or things you find at a flea market, etc. and then using them in different ways. you probably have stuff sitting in your jewelry box that might be broken or you don't wear any more or something your grandmother gave you, but your not sure how to wear it, etc. these are items that we can play around with and then turn them into an everyday piece of jewelry. we will also trouble shoot issues that come up when working with different types of items. email me at keeshagirl4@aol.com if you are interested and i will give you all the details.

Soldering demo at Squan Dry goods this sat. dec. 12th

I will be doing a soldering demo as i am taking orders for soldered anagram pendants this saturday at Squan Dry Goods, in Manasquan. she is an upscale consignment shoppe for women and teens. the shoppe is fantastic and 2 floors of very reasonable, gently used clothing and accessories. her new venue is the jewelry room, which is where i will be at. stop by if you can and say hi!

This weekend is the big shopping weekend - Black Friday! If you aren't sure where to go and you are looking for vintage, unusual or handmade - come on over to Pt. Pleasant, where Summerhouse is hosting an open house at their store this weekend. Santa is coming too! I've been graciously invited to sell some things at their open house (thank you girls), so i hope you can come on down. I'll be selling some vintage holiday ornaments made from old bottle caps and vintage light reflectors, vintage button bracelets, some beautiful old bottles adorned with very old seashells and more! Joanna also mades these, to die for, holiday wreaths with vintage glass balls/ornaments. they are alone are worth your time to feast your eyes on! and you've got to check out the miles of paper chain that they created and draped all over the store; it is totally delightful! Summerhouse is just one of many great stores to be found in the darling little shore town of Pt. Pleasant.

holiday soldered ornament

there are 2 spots left in my holiday ornament class on learning how to solder. here is an ornament that i made the other day using items from my Christmas stash. the class ornament will be a little different (no bow tie and a 2x3 square), but we will have fun using vintage fabrics, old Holiday greeting cards, learning how to attach bulbs to the bottom, etc. email me for details if you are interested at keeshagirl4@aol.com. class is sunday dec. 13th from 1:00-4:30/5:00. you need to put down a deposit to reserve your seat.

have you ever driven past here? it's on the that road in Jackson that you would take to Great Adventure. It's a sketchy looking place and if you drove by it, you'd think the place was abandoned. it's full of shanties/shacks - whatever you want to call them. it's kind of scary actually. i stopped by there last week by myself and walked around. i found the people to be really nice even if i was a little skeeved out. it was hot and not much going on so i didn't stay long. but a nice lady told me to come back on wednesday, so i did.
i got some scoop on the place. It's been a flea market for 50 years and the buildings (they've been upgraded now that i know their history) were brought in from Fort Dix, sometime in the '70's. there is an old school house an ice cream parlor and many other buildings from the fort with interesting background. Regulars rent out the buildings (small houses, $200 a month, bigger buildings, $500 a month). they are open mondays, wed and sundays. if you can hit the place when all the little buildings are open, it might be worth it as those little houses are packed with treaures! i bought a darling old childs metal shopping cart for $10. again, the place is kind of creepy and even the shoppers were a bit unnerving. but i have to say, they were all nice and friendly - in this day and age, you have to appreciate that. jeff and i toured the salvage yard which went on forever filled with JUNK. tractors, buses, campers, cars, wrought iron railings, pile of wood. i don't see me going here on a regular basis, but if i needed something in partiulcar on the cheap, i'd be inclined to look here first.

Well, i am home from my trips to California and Pennyslvania. I'm back in the studio getting prepared for the Country Living Fair in Sept.

My fall schedule is quite full, but i'll start getting a break in November, at which time i've decided to schedule some more classes here at Lemoncholy's Studio.

so tentatively here is what i have in mind:

Nov. 7th - mixed media/assemblage class

Nov. 21st- soldered bottles

Dec. 5th - jewerly class

Dec. 12th - soldered Christmas ornament

i'm heading out to California on tues. for a little R & R. it's my mom's 70th birthday. dillon and i are flying into San Fran, renting a car and then driving towards Yosemite National Park to Bass Lake, where mom lives. Doubt i'll be doing any flea markin while there, but just wanted to let you know where i was! see you when i get back.

Art Opera 2010

I am excited to announce that the Jersey shore will be having it's own art retreat! that's right, you heard me correct. Lisa Kettell has been busy organizing this event to be held April 2010.

Art Opera 2010, which will be held at the exclusive Oyster Point Hotel on April 7, 8, 9 and 10 in Red Bank, NJ right on the Navesink River, a few miles of the beach and New Jersey shore line, with fabulous views and nestled within loads of antique stores, centers, and art trendy shops, Red Bank is known for their trendy and artsy stores, restaurants. Expect 10-15 teachers who teach everything from bookbinding, visual journaling, book arts, paper sculpting, assemblage art, metal making, jewelry, mixed media painting/illustration, vintage arts, dolls arts, sewing arts and creative inspiration. so far i know of two teachers: me and Jenny Heid!

there will be guest speakers, swaps and a vendor faire.

your airport destination would be Newark, NJ, which is about 25 minutes from Red Bank or you can fly into NYC (Kennedy or LaGuardia). There are trains (from NYC) into Red Bank and Olympic Shuttle also has a drop off location in Lincroft, NJ, which borders Red Bank. Personally, i would go with Newark. we all have to start somewhere

Welcome to my new blog. For years, i have complained about living in the state of NJ. Being a California girl, i miss some of the things that are going on back in my home state. there is a lot of organized art in cali. women coming together to form art groups where they meet on a monthly basis, hold classes, teach each other things, etc. Back in the day, this would describe a sewing cirlce. women would get together and sew. but it wasn't just about sewing, it was about being together, talking, crying, learning & teaching. sadly, i have not found much of that here in NJ and i've lived here for 12 years! i find it frustrating. so i've decided to do something about it. " if the mountain won't come to Mohammed, Mohammed must go to the mountain". I've started teaching classes in my home, which is going well, but i want it bigger, better - more organized. i will continue to hold classes here, but in the mean time, i am also going to work on organizing a little Jersey Jypsy retreat here at the shore where i bring in some instructors and have a variety of classes. my target is for March 2010, but i have a lot of work to do, so don't hold me to this......stay tuned......
